In-person Volunteering

In honor of International Day of Volunteering this past week, the Social Impact team would like to give you all one last update on our own volunteerism in 2022. This past year, over 40 DataCampers volunteered over 100 collective working hours to support the education and employability of disadvantaged communities and individuals worldwide. This would not have been possible without the organizational support of our friends at Percent Pledge, as well as 14 very special DataCamp Donates nonprofit partners.

One of the most gratifying volunteer experiences our employees had was with our partners at STEM Educational Institute, which offers free summer data analytics and entrepreneurship bootcamps to at-risk teenagers in multiple cities. By utilizing DataCamp Courses and Workspace for free as a part of DataCamp Donates, they’ve been able to reach even more youths more effectively and retain more development funds to give to their students as cash scholarships for their undergraduate careers.

As the school year was about to start, we visited their New York-based students at a community center in Harlem to provide guidance about transitioning from high school to university and then into the tech industry. We capped off the day by splitting into groups and collaborating on business proposals for mobile app ideas to promote social good.

I had a really rewarding experience volunteering with DataCamp Donates for STEM Educational Institute and would highly recommend every DataCamper to get involved and support the work being done here! Not only did I have the opportunity to volunteer alongside some really amazing colleagues, but I was also able to share my 'non-technical' talents and skills with a bright and promising group of youth from Harlem (my old community). Based on what I experienced and learned during this event, I'm confident that the true impact of DataCamp Donates is immeasurable.

We had our first company Work Week since the pandemic in September in beautiful Athens, Greece. We held a book drive for a local nonprofit library, We Need Books, Athens’ only multilingual library. Everyone was encouraged to bring one book from home in any language in their luggage with them to Greece, and we ended up donating over 50! If you’re ever in Athens and need a cozy, quiet place to read and relax, we can’t recommend this library enough!

Going the extra mile for our DataCamp Donates Partners

We like to take care of our DataCamp Donates partner organizations beyond simply providing them with free access to DataCamp for 1 year. DataCamp employees also volunteered to participate in 18 separate volunteer events for our DataCamp Donates partners and their learners. These events ranged included lectures, workshops, Q&A sessions, administrative assistance, and 1:1 mentoring, impacting thousands of learners.

My experience volunteering with DataCamp Donates has been fantastic. You feel like you are a part of something bigger and can immediately see the impact you are having on learners in the groups you work with. For example, I worked with our partner Developers in Vogue on a Q&A focused on starting your career as a Data Analyst. Their DataCamp Donates learners were very engaged, and you can see the impact you’re having immediately on their career development.

We choose which nonprofit partners to provide this special attention to in the most democratic ways possible. Some DataCamp Donates partner organizations request the presence of some of our experts, and our Social Impact team connects them to the DataCamp employee best suited to the request. But the majority of our volunteer events are actually borne out of our employees’ desires to connect with and aid specific communities they hold close to their hearts. When volunteering, DataCampers often pick a specific nonprofit or geographical location they want to help. With partner organizations in over 80 countries, our DataCamp employees spread out across the world always have a set of wonderful communities to support just as diverse as they are.

Thank you to all the DataCamp Donates Partner Organizations that let our employees interact with their community learners and help make tangible differences in their lives, including:
