Case Study: How Marks & Spencer Built a Vibrant Data Culture

Marks and Spencer (M&S), a major British multinational retailer, recognized the need to build internal data talent and grow its workforce’s data skills. As such, they launched the M&S BEAM Academy, an internal data academy designed to drive a vibrant data & learning culture.

To support the M&S data upskilling program, the M&S BEAM Academy partnered with DataCamp for Business to launch five custom learning paths for aspiring data practitioners that included critical data skills such as data literacy, Power BI, SQL, Python, Excel, and more. To support its data culture, the M&S BEAM Academy worked with DataCamp’s Customer Success team to launch internal competitions and organize meetups & events around data & AI.

As a result, M&S achieved 800% program growth and built a vibrant data community around data upskilling. Currently, 450+ learners have completed hands-on Python, SQL, Power BI, data literacy, Excel, and Spreadsheets training on DataCamp to drive business outcomes across 20+ teams at M&S.
